The blackout of 2G networks forces the migration of solutions based on data calls through GSM modems to IP-based solutions through 3G/4G/5G networks.
In addition, REE has established a new regulatory framework that requires all meters that must be read by them to have a public IP (or domain name) and a TCP port. This mechanism is known as IP Telemetry. VPN-based solutions that involve configurations on the originator end of the read are not allowed and the fixed IP-based solution is not available in all mobile operators firstly, secondly it increases the cost of the service and last but not least represents a security problem as our router is exposed to any access from the Internet.
